Marte to begin rehab assignment

July 15, 2009, 6:30 pm

From Marc Carig (Star-Ledger) we learn that Damaso Marte, who has battled shoulder soreness all season, will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday with the GCL Yankees. Today, GM Brian Cashman noted that the team would like to have another lefty in the bullpen outside of Phil Coke, meaning that Marte will attempt to fill that void if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks. If the Yankees don’t get Marte back before the trade deadline, it’s likely that Cashman will make a move for a reliever like John Grabow of the Pirates.
