The Yankee Universe

The Yankees on Monday announced the creation of Yankees Universe, a new official fan club for the team.

Yankees Universe members will have access to a members-only section of Yankees.com, and will receive a complimentary subscription to Gameday Audio on MLB.com. They will also receive a 10 percent discount on merchandise at participating Yankees Clubhouse stores, and will enjoy a dedicated entrance to Yankee Stadium and a “Fast Track” entrance to the Yankees Museum.

“A membership to Yankees Universe gives fans the chance to experience a world of new and unique team essentials,” Christy Lee, director of the Yankees Fan Club, said in a statement. “We are proud to offer Yankees Universe to the best fans in the world.”

Memberships cost $19.95 and run through the end of the year. A portion of all proceeds will go to the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

New members will also receive a personal membership card and Yankees sticker. Their special access on Yankees.com includes an exclusive message board, along with behind-the-scenes video of Yankee Stadium, player interviews, chats, photos and stories.

To be honest, a TYU membership doesn’t seem to offer many good perks. 

This, however, provides me with a nice segue. I’ve been writing for The Yankees Universe website, a group blog with no connection to the Yankees’ TYU fan club, that features a number of great writers and that tackles many of the issues I discuss on this site, but from varying perspectives.
