The team that trades for Roy Halladay will not be allowed to negotiate an extension with him before the trade is completed, notes Tony Massarotti of the Boston Globe. This would mean that any team that gets Halladay—assuming he waives his no-trade clause without an extension (unlikely but possible)—will only be getting him through 2010. This is good in one way, in that teams won’t have to commit to a 32-year old for an extended period of time, however, it’s also bad in that you lose some of your best prospects for 1 1/2 years of Roy Halladay.

Now, is it worth it? For the Yankees, I don’t think it is…
