Yanks get swept
July 12, 2009, 9:08 pmWith John Lackey on the mound, the Angels swept the punchless Yankees—they left 23 men on base today—despite having to face the ace, CC Sabathia. CC wasn’t very sharp and the team ultimately ended their first half on a sour note, especially since the Red Sox beat the Royals (we’re now 3 games back). Still, once the All-Star break is over, the Yankees will face Detroit, Baltimore and Oakland—all teams that can be beaten. In addition, it appears as though they’ll have some pitching help on the way. While nothing is official, Sergio Mitre is expected to join the team after another good outing for Scranton (he threw 8 scoreless innings and K’d 5).
