Quick Bits: Melancon, Montero
July 10, 2009, 12:56 amHere are two quick, yet awesome, bits to cap off the day:
- After using Alfredo Aceves, David Robertson, Jonathan Albaladejo, Phil Hughes, Phil Coke and Mariano Rivera in yesterday’s win, Mark Melancon has been recalled and will join the Yankees for their series against LA. There’s no word on the corresponding move yet, however, it seems safe to assume that either Robertson or Albaladejo will be sent down. For whatever reason the team really likes Albaladejo though, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see Robertson go (there are other moves that can be made, as well).
- Now, turning from one top prospect to another—Jesus Montero has been named the number 3 prospect (out of 25) on Baseball America’s midseason top prospect list. Montero has mashed all season which has led him to this tremendous honor (he’s ahead of Justin Smoak and Buster Posey). What about Austin Jackson, you might ask? Well, A-Jax didn’t rank in the top 25 but BA also compiled a list of the next 25 top prospects (after the first 25) and he was featured in that group. Good stuff for both players.
