Pie in the sky
January 18, 2009, 5:35 pmThe Orioles have traded Garrett Olson for Felix Pie. A few years ago, Pie was considered the Cubs’ best overall prospect. It’s funny how things change in this game, because now he’s on the move for a guy who has decent stuff and will likely be a 5th starter (best case scenario) or a reliever (some think he could get flipped in a deal for Peavy). The Pie trade will probably hinder former Yankee Justin Christian from getting some solid playing time in Baltimore, as Pie should get a chance to play LF on a regular basis.
While the Orioles have put together some quality moves in order to get better and younger (Adam Jones trade, Nick Markakis’ soon-to-be extension), they won’t contend for at least several years. They need pitching, and lot’s of it.

Cano the Cardinal?
January 18, 2009, 2:37 pmFrom the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
The asking price the New York Yankees set for second baseman Robinson Cano when the Cardinals called about a deal: Adam Wainwright. The conversation did not last long.
That would have been a fair return for Cano (I assume they would then sign Orlando Hudson). It’s understandable why the Cardinals wouldn’t do it, of course, given Wanwright’s abilities/price (he is an injury-risk, though). He makes $13.75 milion over the next 3 years (Cano makes $25 million in comparison). What do you think?
(Props to MLBTR).
