Boras wants Jeter money

Buster Olney writes that Mark Teixeira and his super-agent, Scott Boras, may end up on the losing end if they continue this contractual charade. Their leverage is quickly diminishing as the Red Sox and Angels have “backed out” of their talks with Tex (although the Angels are thought to be serious, while the Sox are probably still in it). In terms of the Yankees, Boras does have them on his mind, but he’s looking at one Yankee, in particular—Derek Jeter. According to Olney, Boras knows that Jeter’s $189 million contract is a financial benchmark and he’s looking to surpass that figure with Teixeira. Of course, nobody thinks he’ll get that, especially with his market tightening up. In fact, I would even venture so far as to say that Boras may have overplayed his hand.
