Finally…

December 19, 2008, 11:44 am

I was supposed to leave via airplane yesterday, around 3 PM. That obviously didn’t pan out (snow in Seattle is like an unspoken evil) and I ended up having my flight canceled until Sunday night. However (and luckily), a family friend’s connections allowed me to get home this morning, although it required me waiting at the airport for 9 hours (thank you JetBlue). So, my apologies for the lack of posts these past 2 days.

I’ll get right back into it with 2 of the more interesting stories I’ve heard:

1. First, the Red Sox are supposedly out of the Teixeira sweepstakes. They were reportedly “outbid” and don’t plan on being too involved in the negotiations from hereon in (do we truly buy that, though?). This gives the Nat’s, Angels and Orioles some firepower while hampering Scott Boras’ power. Great news for Yankee fans.

2. Also, the Yankees are weary of Ben Sheets and his injury history. According to Joel Sherman, they’re staying away from him.

Back later, with more.

  1. There are some quotes floating around the interwebs from some phone interview Torii Hunter did. Supposedly, he mentions something to the effect of the LAA making a huge offer to Tex that would blow everyone else out of the water.

  2. Hey ted. I believe I read that report, however, based on other stories, the Angels have not provided the highest offer (at least not yet).

  3. I was confused on that too. If you asked Torii Hunter, LAA has by far the best offer. If you ask some people, the Nats have the highest offer and are willing to go to or possibly above $200M. Then some think the Sox offer is the highest or very close and that Boras was completely bluffing on the fact that it was well short of the highest. There was even one report I read that the Yankees had thrown out a “secret” offer of over $200M to swoop in and sign Tex (which seems highly unlikely, because Tex would already have signed if that were the case).
