$36 million for Andy?
December 15, 2008, 2:59 pmAccording to Jon Heyman, a “mystery team” has offered Andy Pettitte a 3-year deal worth $36 million (that’s $12 million, per). Or, at least this is what Pettitte’s “people” are telling those in the baseball world. It’s probably just a bargaining ploy, created to facilitate an increase in salary from the $10 million offered by the Yankees (although, I could see a Texas team providing him with that money). In addition, Heyman notes that the Yanks aren’t budging which could indicate that they too feel that the deal is nothing more but smoke and mirrors.
At any rate, even if Pettitte were offered such a deal, I think the team is fairly comfortable with their rotation and wouldn’t hesitate to let him walk. If they save $10 million on Pettitte and don’t bring in Mike Cameron, they could have enough money to make a run at another bat.

The Yankees should call his bluff and just go sign a big bat. Once this proves to be untrue, he will come crawling back to them and they can say they only have $8M left to spend on a starter. BAM! I just saved them $2M.
Cool! That is using your head. :)
