Yanks interested in Ibanez?
December 7, 2008, 3:00 pmAccording to Tom LaRue, the Yankees are one of many teams interested in Raul Ibanez, who will likely decline arbitration and leave the Mariners. LaRue’s mention of the Yankees seems like a mere spattering of the club’s name, as I doubt there is much to the rumor. Ibanez is a great player and is rumored to be one hell of a teammate (he’s also a NY native), but if the Yankees were truly set on adding another old (he’s 36) and defensively useless OF, don’t you think they’d consider Manny Ramirez, first and foremost instead of Rauuuul (if they spend money on offense it’ll be on either Manny or Mark, essentially)?
(Props to RAB).

Except Ibanez would be much cheaper.
That’s very true. Would Ibanez’s offensive value outweigh his lack of defense, though? I’m not sure, however, I do think that Manny’s would.
Ibanez was steriods producer and now not.
