Bits: Cano & Kemp, Lowe
December 4, 2008, 2:36 pmA few key notes on the day:
1. According to Ken Rosenthal, at the GM Meetings in Vegas, the Yankees and Dodgers are expected to kick the tires on their Cano discussions and the Yanks will look for nothing less than Matt Kemp. KR states that, if the Yankees discuss Cano, in terms of innate value, they’ll look at him as the 2006-2007 version, rather than the 2008 model. I’m a huge fan of Kemp, however, why trade one young, affordable player for another (at a premium position)? Also, Cano is mashing in the Dominican League as we speak, hitting safely in his last 10 games, while collecting 5 walks and 7 RBI in that timespan. He’s hitting .317/.404/.463.
2. This morning, I posted a Tony Masserotti article (B. Globe) about Derek Lowe’s offer from Philadelphia and another mystery team. I didn’t realize that in the same article (further down), Masserotti notes that Brian Cashman will actually meet with Scott Boras today and could make a formal offer for Derek Lowe (Cashman could also discuss Teixeira and Oliver Perez). Although I’m weary of Lowe’s age, his skill set is real and his sinker is Wang-esque. In fact, I’m inclined to say that he’d be a better buy than A.J. Burnett, simply because you know what you’re getting with Lowe. Actually yes, I’ll say right now, definitively, that he’d probably be a better buy given the market for Burnett, in comparison.

I’ll assume the Kemp for Cano…..then trigers an Orlando Hudson signing @ around 5 million for 5 years. 2 for 1.
That I could understand as opposed to “He who’s name should never be spoken” Cameron!
