Ouch…

From Phil Allard (NYYFans.com):

Cashman had a chance to deal Melky when his stock was valued higher, but at this point, he wouldn’t garner much at all. One American League scout commented: “In a few years, Melky will be playing in some independent league. Or in the Mexican League.”

Yikes, those are harsh words for our buddy Melky. No worries, at least some of us still believe that Melky can turn it all around before it’s too late. At the beginning of the season, Melky’s dingers and spectacular CF play was enough to make any Yankee fan salivate. We dreamed about our very own Alex Rios.

Now, Melky is playing for SWB. Go figure (at least he’s hitting).

(Props to RAB).

  1. I like Brett Gardner better, but I still think that Melky deserves better than being written off. He’s just off his game–hopefully some time in the minors will wake him up a bit.

  2. I think Melky is going to turn it around. After all, he’s only in his early twenties.

  3. Yea, hopefully he’ll turn it all around. If he doesn’t start showing legitimate power though, I’d say get rid of him. Of course, they’ll have to wait again until he ups his value a bit. Brett Gardner can do what Melky has done (hit for a decent average and get on base) and could probably do it better (his OBP is great). He’s also a lot faster, so Melky is going to have to show up or ship out.
