Matsui’s Return, Joba Throwing

August 17, 2008, 12:36 pm

Hey everyone, I apologize for the lack of updates, as I’ve been in Massachusetts for a wedding. The victory last night was a big one for the Yanks, and it appears as though every game from this point on is a must-win. If they keep losing, the Blue Jays may actually have a shot at beating the Yankees out of the AL East altogether (talk about embarrassing). For those who are still hopeful (there’s no sense in giving up just yet), the good news is that Hideki Matsui, who homered in his first rehab game, could possibly return this week. The Yankees will have Matsui participate in a simulated game today and then he’ll return to New York. This could signal a return to the lineup for the Blue Jays series (which is now very important).

Also, Joba Chamberlain could return this season, but I would think that his return is in congruence with the Yankees’ record. If the team can bounce back a bit, then maybe he’ll get the green light to return to the rotation. However, if the Yankees fall out of contention (Wild Card contention, in particular), then he’ll likely be shut down for the remainder of the season. Joba will take the day off and throw again tomorrow (he threw yesterday and felt fairly loose).
