Igawa Keeps Winning

July 27, 2008, 3:56 pm

Kei Igawa, fresh off of being removed from the 40-man yesterday, pitched 6 innings yesterday and gave up 1 ER. He lowered his season ERA to 3.69 and was the first Yankee pitcher (in AAA) to reach 10 wins (well, technically Jeff Karstens was that guy but was traded on the day he earned his tenth). Personally, I feel bad for Kei Igawa. He seems like he wants to succeed and do well, but his stuff just hasn’t translated well in his major league starts. Hopefully the Yankees will bite the bullet and just trade him to an NL team. I’m sure the Padres could use him for next season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went to the NL and shut opposing teams down. If given a legitimate chance outside of NYC, I think he could be a decent pitcher.

  1. I agree completely. I think he just needs some experience on the mound in the majors, and trying to do that in New York isn’t the place for most people. The Yankees should just trade him out to San Diego or Colorado for a couple of prospects, because it would help everybody. Igawa doesn’t deserve to be a career minor leaguer.

  2. Definitely. I’d feel bad if they sent him to Colorado, though. He’s a strikeout, flyball type of guy, so who knows what would happen to him at a high altitude, lol. I think he could even dominate if given a chance in Petco’s cozy confines (like Randy Wolf).

  3. this is why I love your blog man, instead of me seacrhing all over the place and going through pages and pages of other yibb yabb before I get to some good Yankee (or Yankee related) news, I come here. You always have it and keep it current. Thanks for that! Anyway, good luck to Igawa wherever, if ever they decide to ship him off. I just don’t want to see him on the mound for the Yanks.
