Yo Lowe

July 22, 2008, 2:32 pm

George King III reports that the Yankees have been scouting Derek Lowe, of the LA Dodgers. Lowe has been on the Yankees’ radar for a little while now, and while he’s a solid pitcher, I’d be surprised if the Dodgers parted with him. Unless they could acquire a power-hitting outfielder (which King notes is what they want) to compliment the Ethier, Pierre, Jones, and Kemp combination, I don’t see a deal happening. Also, I would think that they would hold on to their pitchers, especially since they’re doing well in the NL West.

  1. I agree with you, the Dodgers are not going to part with Lowe.

Although Lowe hasn’t had a great season, he has been one of the more consistent starting pitchers for the Dodgers. Besides Chad Billingsley, he’s one of the only starting pitchers not to have visited the DL this season. Brad Penny, Hiroki Kuroda, Jason Schmidt,

Also, you must have caught any wind of Dodgers news from day 1 of the season if you think Juan Pierre and Andruw Jones are part of the Dodgers’ productive players crew. Substitute Pierre and Jones for Loney and Martin.

  2. Exactly. Oh, and I know that Loney and Martin have been their best players. Loney has probably been their best RBI producer (from what I remember), but I would think that they’re looking for an outfielder, specifically because the Dodger outfield is powerless. Ethier has been hot, Pierre I believe is on the DL, Jones is a bust, and Kemp is doing what he can (he’s got a nice hitting streak going, but the power hasn’t come in as much as they would have liked), but they would definitely like a power spark out there. Even Loney doesn’t hit for much power.
