Understanding Hughes

Kalk looks at Hughes’ release point and also examines the movement of his pitches as he attempts to understand his struggles in 2008. He has some especially interesting info about Hughes’ fastball as well. Nice stuff.
It’s a good article. Hopefully, the Yankees will allow Hughes to break out that slider again.
Yea, he just needs to vary his pitch selection a bit more. Although the changeup isn’t a plus pitch and is still developing, he’ll need to throw it just to keep “hitters honest”, as stated in the article. Guys are simply sitting on the fastball and are letting that curve fly by.
