Rainer Sabin (NY Times) has a pretty somber piece on Kei Igawa and his experience with the Yankees thus far. Igawa has really been trying to find his way back to the big league team, yet his attempts have not been too successful. After reading Sabin’s text, you’ll feel for the guy. He’s not Carl Pavano, he’s a guy who came over expecting to do some damage after years of success in Japan and when he arrived here, he found out that his raw stuff wasn’t as good as he thought. Imagine how Mike Mussina felt last year when he found out he couldn’t get hitters out with just his stuff. Igawa’s kind of in the same boat, except he hasn’t turned the page like Mussina has.

Jeter Overrated?
June 20, 2008, 12:41 amFrom the Daily News:
In a Sports Illustrated survey of 495 Major League Baseball players in its June 23 issue, Jeter was voted the most overrated with 10% of the vote. Struggling Giants lefthander Barry Zito was second at 9%, while Alex Rodriguez and Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew were tied for third with 7%. Mets third baseman David Wright and Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis tied for fourth at 4%.
People love to hate Derek Jeter. It’s probably because he’s the face of the Yankees, and a lot of players and fans simply hate the Yankees for their financial clout and success in the game of baseball. Now, I think this poll is bogus and for a variety of reasons. But, at the end of the day, you go to any of these players and poll them with this question: Who would you rather have at the plate with runners in scoring position (current players only)?
I guarantee you, Jeter will win that poll too.
