Breaking News: Willie Randolph Fired

June 17, 2008, 5:29 am

The news just came out and he’ll be replaced by Jerry Manuel (bench coach). Pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto were also released. I know this isn’t a Mets blog, but that’s some pretty big news (especially for NY) and Willie is a part of the Yankee family, so I figured this warrants a post (why so late though?).

  1. Do you think Willie would take a 3rd base coach job? Wave ‘em home was an okay manager but a very good 3rd base coach. Meacham is not good at all. He’s cost us outs and runs all season. Hire Willie back! The Bronx is his real home anyway.

  2. I hope he comes to the Yankees.
The way he was fired was a low blow and a bullshit move.
Look at that team; if you want to see an old and overpaid team don’t look at the Yankees, look at the Mets. Minaya was at fault for their failures

  3. yea i definitely agree that willie shouldn’t be blamed so much for this year’s debacle, but i also think he had to be blamed for last year’s collapse. he should have found a way to spark them to at least a few wins. i wouldn’t be surprised to see him come back to the yankees in some form or aspect (he probably won’t be a 3B coach though, at least not yet).
