Donald Trump: A-Rod Isn’t Clutch

May 8, 2008, 7:58 pm

Donald Trump, for some reason, discussed Alex Rodriguez at the Economics Arkansas Luncheon in Arkansas today (how random is that shit), saying that, “he always plays bad under pressure.” Well, in the past that could be considered true, but doesn’t last year say something about A-Rod’s ability to deliver in big spots?

With 2 outs and RISP in 2007, A-Rod hit .318 and a had a 1.224 OPS. He drove in 46 RBI and mashed 12 homers in such situations. Also, in tied games, A-Rod hit 13 homers, all of which were game changing and tremendously important for the Yankees. Now, so far in 2008, he hasn’t done anything like that, hitting .100 with RISP and 2 outs with zero homers in tied games (although he has driven in 3 RBI), but he also hasn’t had many opportunities to do so since his injury.

Yankee fans, including Donald Trump (as well as animals like the deceased ferrite that calls his head a home), should respect A-Rod’s body of work from last year before making snap judgments. We should at least wait a few more weeks (more AB’s) before we bury him like we normally do.

  1. alex is awsome….. its only a matter of time before he has a huge postseason…..then everybody will shut up.

  2. if a-rod can one day hit a postseason walkoff homer against the red sox, then he’ll never ever have to hear about not being clutch.

  3. then i would have died and gone to heaven brother

  4. oh yes, if only one day a-rod could hit a walk-off homerun in the post season, too bad the yankees won’t make the post season for the next few years…

  5. Granted average or OPS with RISP position is certainly an indication of being “clutch”, but I believe that one must put substantial value in post season performance and A-rod doesn’t react. The man fainted when his baby was born…how you gonna bank on him hitting a walk off homer against the red sox in the post season?

  6. The Yankees have to get to the post season first…..

then A-Rod can continue to be bad in the post-season.

  7. Haha, the man’s fainting is indefensible. You can say that he has to deliver in the postseason, but let’s face it, the entire team has been pretty terrible the past few years during the playoffs. We can’t blame A-Rod for that alone. Plus, without his clutch hits last year we wouldn’t have made it to the playoffs.
