Stadium Rituals (Red Sox Rivalry)

January 18, 2008, 11:16 pm

 yankee fan

YouTube is quite possibly the greatest thing ever. Here are some videos from Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium that are pretty interesting if you’re a fan of baseball rivalries.

The first: Yankee Fans at Fenway Park

Adjective to describe the experience: annoying

The second: Red Sox Fan at Yankee Stadium

Adjective to describe the experience: brutal

Needless to say, I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with any of the “rituals” you’ve seen above (I’m fairly apathetic, I think these are just fun moments for fans of both sides), I’m just documenting them for you guys, as we get closer to the 2008 season.

  1. I have experienced what you are talking about. I had the pleasure (??) Of going to 2003 game 3 Yanks v Sox @ Fenway. This was the game where Pedro threw Zim to the ground.

I was decked in Yankee gear that day, and when the game was over I really thought one of those drunk BU kids was gonna jump me!

The atmosphere for Sox fans @ The Stadium might include taunting and name calling, but Fenway for a Yankee fan can feel physically threatening.

  2. wow lol, that’s a good example. i don’t know though. i feel as though, ever since 2004, the animosity at the stadium has grown (towards Sox fans). i’ve never been to fenway and intend on going one day, but i’ve also been to 3 sox vs yankee games at the stadium (with my gf, who is a sox fan). ppl were actually friendly to her, simply because she was a girl, with me, and she was nice to everyone.

  3. Have you seen the Bleacher’s Creatures video on Youtube. There is some taunting in that one too. In my opinion the rivalry definetely makes the games better and rivalries in general make the sport more exciting.

  4. Oh, totally. Some of the bleacher creature chants are a bit much though. Have you seen the Why Are You Gay (play on YMCA) chant? I saw them perform it in front of a Mets fan (on Youtube). Absolutely brutal.
