Make it Rain

Peter Abraham at the Lohud Blog just reported that Andy Pettitte has reached an agreement with the Yankees for $16 million, which is the price of his original option.  Pete also goes on to talk about the Yankees and their spending habits, dishing out upwards of $200 million dollars (and even more if Santana is acquired).

The Yankees are pretty ridiculous when it comes to spending, we all know that.  We probably could’ve had a bit more flexibility if it weren’t for the nostalgia-driven contract provided to Mariano Rivera or the front loaded portion of A-Rod’s contract.

But remember, after next season, Mussina is off the books.  Pettitte is off the books.  Giambi is off the books (thank god).  Pavano is off the books (….), and so on and so forth.  The Yankees should clear a ton of payroll for next year so, in terms of this year, why not just let it fly like a drunk dude at the stripclub (I’m so eloquent).
